Ali Stone, the Ayatollahs, and Freudian Agonies of the American Likudnik Right……..
Rattlesnake Ridge
BFF “Agence France Press reported yesterday that Oliver Stone’s son Sean converted to Islam in Iran. AFP made an error in its report, however, by asserting that the famed director is Jewish. Judaism is matrilineal and only Stone’s father is Jewish. His mother – ironically, given the nationality of the press agency – is French and Catholic. But never mind. The question remains why would Stone’s son convert to Islam? A conventional answer might be the oft-cited links now between Islamism and leftism. But there may be another reason: Islam’s attitude towards women. Stone pere has been married three times, but his reputation as womanizer (and, to some, misogynist) extends far beyond that paltry number. Perhaps his son, in the tradition of the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, was seeking opportunities via Islam his father never had……………….” P J Media
This is a rather convoluted Freudian way to explain Sean Stone’s conversion to Islam in Tehran. Not only conversion to Islam, but to Shi’a Islam and in Tehran! It is like converting to Communism while on a tour of the Kremlin in the days of Joe the Beltway bully drunk. Shi’a Islam, the evil du jour of all things Islamic these days among the American right wing Likud-philes. Sunni Wahhabi Salafi Islam was the evil du jour of post September 11 period, but that was before the Israelis shifted their crosshairs away from Riyadh and toward Tehran. That was before the hundred billion dollars weapons deals. Besides, Bush started holding hands with the Saudi king at his Texas ranch on Valentine's day, just like Roy Rogers and Dale Evans used to do. So he must be kosher.
I bet they didn’t agonize over New Gingrich’s conversion (to Catholicism-for-love). Or over Madonna’s sort-of chic conversion for WTF motivates celebrities. I hear that the kid is also into films, like his dad. They make some great award-winning films in Iran: maybe it has to do with that?
Cheers
