Speaking of Asses and the Middle East: Rick Santorum and the Nationality of Jesus Christ………

Remember my last posting about asses and donkeys? There is a relevant quote from Rick Santorum, former senator and Republican presidential candidate:

“At his last town hall before South Carolinians vote, Rick Santorum was discussing the concepts of freedom and equality that the nation was founded on and said the concept of equality “doesn’t come from Islam” or “Eastern religions.” Instead “it comes from “the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”……“I get a kick out of folks who call for equality now, the people on the left, ‘Well, equality, we want equality.’ Where do you think this concept of equality comes from?” Santorum asked the enthusiastic crowd packed into a restaurant here. It doesn’t come from Islam. It doesn’t come from the East and Eastern religions, where does it come from? It comes from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that’s where it comes from.”…………....

Rick Santorum must think Christianity originated in Western Pennsylvania or the Old Confederacy. I know many people in the American Bible-belt believe Jesus was blond with blue eyes and wore a dark suit and tie and maybe a Rolex, just like the pastor (or maybe overalls). I hate to break their hearts, but Jesus most likely looked like Osama Bin Laden and dressed like him (yep, in rags like some of us do back home). Last time I looked Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Jerusalem were still in the Middle East, which makes Christianity (and Judaism) a very Middle Eastern religion.
(I recall once asking a Palestinian colleague "What was the nationality of Jesus Christ?", and she never hesitated "He was Palestinian". Okay, she was more humorous than the average).

I have to admit the electoral process puzzles me sometimes. I still haven't figured out how people elect such fuckheads, not just for the U.S. Senate but all over the world. How do they vote for them in presidential primaries?

Anyway, about Santorum: someone on the ABC show "This Week" opined today that Santorum's candidacy is like some people: everyone knows they are dead, except they themselves don't know it yet".
Cheers
