Sectarian Terrorism in Iraq: What is in a Name………………
Rattlesnake Ridge
“Insurgents mounted another attack against Iraq’s Shiites on Saturday, as an explosion in the southern city of Basra ripped through a group of pilgrims headed to a mosque to commemorate one of the holiest Shiite holidays. The explosion hit a tent where pilgrims were being fed around 8:30 a.m., killing at least 53 people, including several police officers at a nearby checkpoint, and wounding more than 130 others, local officials said………..”
Western media insist of using the term “insurgents” for the al-Qaeda affiliated Salafi Wahhabi terrorists in Iraq. The headlines always read “Insurgents blow up 40 Shi’as” or “Insurgents kill 60 Shi’as and wound hundreds”. It is really similar to saying something like “Insurgents blow up 60 Jews and wound hundreds” or “Insurgents massacre 50 Christians and 30 Jews and wound many more”. Except in the latter case they would not call them “insurgents”; they would correctly call them “terrorists”. You'd think these terrorist Wahhabi fundamentalists are the Viet Cong.
Semi-official and other Arab media almost never refer to the sectarian Salafi killers anymore. They almost always say something like “In Iraq 60 people were killed from……”. There is never any remorse or regret: it is like, wink, wink, we know who gets killed and who is doing the killing and who is financing them from across the borders. Several years of sectarian hate-mongering by the vast Saudi media and their Salafi and Wahhabi faux-liberal followers on the Gulf have borne fruit. Many Arabs seem desensitized to these killings based on identity.
