Schmoozing in Cuba: Ahmadinejad Blows his last Chance at the Republican Nomination………

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denounced capitalism during a speech at the University of Havana on the third leg of his tour of Latin America. At the university, the Iranian president railed against the United States and its allies and said heartless capitalism is the root cause of war. "Thankfully we are already witnessing that the capitalist system is in decay," Ahmadinejad said. "On various stages it has come to a dead end - politically, economically and culturally." "You see that when it lacks logic, they turn to weapons to kill and destroy," he added. Ahmadinejad received an honorary doctorate from the university prior to his speech. The Iranian leader spoke warmly of his Cuban hosts, describing the relationship of the two countries as "solidarity between two revolutionary peoples”…….…..”

‘Two revolutionary peoples’: the problem with this is that leaders often think that their peoples think as they do. That is almost never true, certainly not in Iran, nor probably in Cuba anymore. Hell, it is probably not true anymore even in the Arabian Peninsula where Saudi conformity and obedience are the new true ‘faith’, second only to Pyongyang.

Advise to Ahmadinejad: dissing capitalism is not a way to get elected, at least not in the United States. Schmoozing with Fidel, even in the sunset years of his life, is blasphemy to all seemingly God-fearing folks just ninety miles away across the Caribbean Sea. I mean it is not as kosher, in a Republican sense, as schmoozing with Mao or Brezhnev or some of the absolute kleptocratic Arab potentates. If Mr. Ahmadinejad had any aspirations to become the Republican nominee, he just ruined his chances.
Dommage: he would probably fit nicely on the GOP debate podium this year; he could out-God them all. He would invoke the divinity much more than, say, Rick Santorum.
Yet this Cuban visit has done it: he can kiss Florida goodbye, as well as the Red States, especially the eleven that used to be called the Confederate States of America. Come to think of it, he probably couldn’t even win Vermont now.

Cheers
