The Pentagon is preparing for formal congressional review of an arms sale to the United Arab Emirates that includes about 600 satellite-guided bunker-buster bombs, according to three people familiar with the issue. The 600 bombs, which weigh as much as 2,000-pounds each, are part of munitions package for the U.S. ally whose pilots fly the world’s most technologically advanced Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) F-16s, said people who spoke on the condition they not be identified because the sale is sensitive. The exact bunker- buster variant has not been set, they said. The sale comes at a time of growing tension between Arab states in the Persian Gulf region and Iran ………….”

That was an item that caught my eye before the end of 2011. At the time I wondered, and I wrote about it here. WTF would the al-Nahayan rulers of UAE, owners of Abu Dhabi, would want with these sophisticated JDAM bunker busters?
I didn’t think it likely they had the people to operate them. Not even their multinational Blackwater-led mercenary legion (Colombians, Aussies, Boers, etc, etc) could use such sophisticated weapon. Besides, the JDAM is an attack weapon, and Fujairah or Umm El-Quwain are unlikely to rebel anytime soon against their Abu Dhabi rulers.
Now we know: they will be used to blast the Iranian nuclear facilities just across the Persian-American Gulf. That is probably why the Iranian announced last week that they are moving their centrifuges deeper underground in Fordo. They wanted to get them away from the massive firepower of the al-Nahyan brothers. Hillary Clinton, perhaps unaware of the Mullahs' reasons, proclaimed herself dismayed and disturbed (the latter her word not mine) at this development.

(Anyone else notice how often Hillary proclaims herself 'disturbed' these days? Even her aides at the State Department are now beginning to fess up to being 'disturbed'. I am waiting for Jeffery Fetlam to confess that he too is 'disturbed', maybe after he returns from Beirut).
Cheers
