Bahrain Sports: all in the Family, Jordanian Humor…………
Rattlesnake Ridge

“His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander today sent a cable of congratulations to Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa following the historic victory of the national football team in the 12th Arab Games in Doha. The national squad edged past Jordan 1-0 in the final march to clinch the gold medal. HRH Prince Salman also congratulated SCYS secretary-general and Bahrain Football Association Chairman Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa.………..”
The Bahrain regime famously arrested scores of the country's best players, tried some of them on television and tried some of them in military courts. All because many of them supported the pro-democracy movement.
Beating the Jordanian team is no great shakes. Jordan is not exactly a soccer (football) powerhouse, or any other sports powerhouse. This victory is probably the equivalent to beating a high school team (of course boys not girls) in our neck of the woods out here in the Pacific Northwest. As for the gold medal, oh well, one of the shaikhs can melt it and sell it. I mean who the hell was there to compete anyway: many Arab states are in revolutionary turmoil and few are available to play these days. Still, I bet this defeat didn’t make Jordanians any more humorous than they usually are, which is usually on the wrong side of the Mufti of Saudi Arabia or any Iraqi politician or the prime minister of Bahrain for that matter.
Cheers
