Meanwhile, Ayad Allawi, the Saudi’s favorite Shi’a politician in Iraq was back on the Saudi semi-official Alarabiya network complaining about the al-Maliki government. He blamed the recent explosions on the failure of the government and on the departure of American forces. Allawi sure knows how to please the Saudi princes.
(This is not necessarily an endorsement of al-Maliki and his government, which do not seem capable of improving the lives of the Iraqi people. I doubt that an Allawi regime could be any less corrupt. After all, the corruption permeates all branches, including the parliament and the tribal shaikhs).
