Gulf GCC Leaders to Meet Captain Kirk and Spock and Maybe some Klingons……..
Rattlesnake Ridge
“Jordan’s foreign minister said Monday that the inaugural session of talks for his country's admission into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are planned for early in September. The GCC leaders, who met in Riyadh in May, agreed to allow Jordan to join their political bloc in a move analysts have attributed to the rapidly-spreading Arab revolts. In an interview with the official Petra news agency, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh denied reports that feuds among the GCC's member states over Jordan's admission had prompted postponement of the discussions, which were originally scheduled to start in Saudi Arabia early in August. ……..”
Alright. They will meet in Riyadh and start the move toward “merging”. Apparently it was the Saudi Arabian government that had the initial “urge to merge”, with Jordan, with Morocco, with Bhutan, and possibly with Monaco and Cambodia if they would only convert. Yet the leaders of the potential GCC have divergent interests and hobbies. King Abdul of Jordan, for example, is not into polygamy: he’d rather play Star Trek than dally with multiple spouses. Ditto for the king of Morocco, I assume, although he is not a known Star Trek fan as the Jordanian king is. That might mean, should the talks unexpectedly succeed and Jordan joins the Gulf GCC, the king may insist on one day when they all wear Trekkie outfits for their summit (at least at the ministerial level). As for the relations to the Klingons, any resemblance among the potentates is purely “accidental”.
Then there is the issue of divergent “bank accounts”: the Jordanian and Moroccan monarchs don’t have access to unlimited bank accounts (a k a assets), and will always be the poor relations, in the unlikely event of the success of talks. They will definitely need to "coordinate" the rulers and potentates' bank accounts.
If the merger talks fail or drag into the forever, as I fully expect them to, then the Trekkie attire will not be the only culprit to blame. I can list tens of reasons, but not today.
Cheers
