Gulf WTF: Can the GCC Organize a Piss-Up in a Brewery?...................

The news about the bizarre GCC summit in Riyadh is getting odder by the day. After the initial announcement about 'accepting' Jordanian application and 'inviting Morocco', there has been nothing official. The GCC secretariat has lost its tongue, or maybe it has been embarrassed by the sycophants advising the rulers. Some media reports around the GCC now claim Morocco has politely declined the “honor” of joining the GCC. Some Moroccan sources claim Morocco had no prior knowledge of this “invitation”. Many Moroccans seem against it: they have many freedoms now and are working toward more. Most Moroccans are either amused or shocked by the whole thing. Why risk it and join a Saudi-style absolute tribal monarchy?
There are also some reports, or credible claims, that Oman and Qatar are against it. Even Alarabiya, the royal Saudi mouthpiece (managed by a son of the late King Fahd), has gone silent about this. Its general manager wrote in Asharq Alawsat expressing his surprise and trying to figure out WTF it means.
How can heads of state meet and discuss joining other sovereign states to their group WITHOUT consulting these states? Don’t the Moroccan and Jordanian governments deserve to decide first before this become public? Don’t the peoples of Jordan and Morocco deserve to decide? What made this bunch of leaders make a declaration that has made their countries the laughingstock of the whole Middle East? If you are in doubt, just go on Twitter and search for #FunnyGCC.
I realize, from personal experience, that I should know better than to ask, but: who the fuck decided on this? The al-Saud and al-Nahayan and al-Khalifa? Didn’t they coordinate with each other AND with Morocco and Jordan? Can these leaders, or more likely their idiotic aides and advisers, organize anything right? I used to blog some time ago that these governments can’t organize a “piss-up in a brewery”, but I haven’t used the term in over a year or two. It truly is time for the people to start questioning with me: can these regimes organize a “piss-up in a brewery”?
Cheers
