A political survivor in every sense, Iraq's former prime minister has had so many assassination plots against him that these days he only counts the "serious ones". "To date, there have been seven proper ones that I know of, plus a few more minor ones as well," he told The Sunday Telegraph, in the matter-of-fact way that other leaders might discuss past cabinet posts. "It comes with the job in Iraq, although I don't worry too much."…….

Seven times. That is news to us, it is probably news to the suspected assassins as well. It may all have been news to Mr. Allawi himself a few months ago. That’s okay, everybody is entitled, nay needs, his Walter Mitty parallel life. Within reasonable limits.

The Telegraph is writing as if he ‘may’ become a prime minister again. I want to disabuse them of that notion. Iraqiya bloc now say they will not accept al-Maliki as PM, a long way from their previous position that they should appoint the PM.
My new fatwa? It will be between al-Maliki and Abdul Mahdi. I am betting that Abdul is more likely than Al, but I have been wrong before.

Cheers
