Re the last posting: I personally liked this quote from the Freedom House report: “The participation of women in political life in MENA countries is the lowest in the world. Women are not allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia……”

Don’t they realize, these silly Americans, that the very same applies to men? That in Saudi Arabia nobody, human, animal, or vegetable can vote. That they don’t vote for anything, not even a proverbial dogcatcher. Not even a pretense at elections (which may actually be spinned as making them sort of honest). Some claim in their media that “isn’t it better” than the uncertainty of Iraq or the television debates and post-election disputes (and crackdown) of Iran or the divisions of Lebanon or the costly elections of America?
