Directed by Mehdi Naderi and produced by the Iranian Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC), the 100-minute film will be Iran's representative in the 83rd Academy Awards. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is annually given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the US with a predominantly non-English dialogue track. Majid Majidi's Song of Sparrows and Asghar Farhadi's About Elly represented at the 81st and 82nd Oscars respectively. Majidi's Children of Heaven was also nominated for the 1998 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Naderi's 2010 production is set in Baghdad and depicts the lives of American and Iraqi soldiers in the war-ridden country. Farewell Baghdad is the filmmaker's first feature-length production after several documentaries and shorts…….

I bet some Iranian émigré, perhaps in Tehrangeles (Calif) will come up with a rival film, perhaps titled “Farewell, Elections….”

Cheers
