Rajavi Reported Dead: from Iranian Revolutionary to Cult Leader……
Rajavi and Friend“Unconfirmed news from several sources in Tehran reported Wednesday the death of Massoud Rajavi, leader of the anti-government organization the People's Mujahedin of Iran. The news of the death of Massoud Rajavi, also president of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, was first posted on the website of reformist leader Dr. Mehdi Khazali and no official denial has been issued so far. The pro-government news website Atynews also wrote that a source close to the website staff telephoned from abroad to report the death of the dissident leader……”
Rajavi escaped Iran in 1981 along with then Iranian president Abulhasan Bani-Sadr, barely ahead of those who would be sent by the mullahs to arrest them. Later, his wife Mariam was elected leader of the organization and its hardcore members settled in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, who armed and funded them. The group that had attacked American interests, then had fought for the revolution, and fought against clerical control eventually became an obscure cult-like oddity. Not exactly a Jonestown on the Tigris, but an anomaly in Iraq.
They have been in the news lately because the Iraqis (the non-Ba’atheists) want to get rid of them. The Gulf Arab absolute oligarchs, who hated the Mujahideen Khaq when their patron Saddam was in power are suddenly in favor of them and want them to stay in Iraq although they would not welcome them in their own countries.
Cheers
