“Putting up a monument to Islam at Ground Zero is not just insensitive but provocative…….No one disputes the right to build; the whole debate is about the propriety, the decency of doing so. It takes no courage whatsoever to bask in the applause of a Muslim audience as you promise to stand stoutly for their right to build a mosque, giving the unmistakable impression that you endorse the idea. What takes courage is to then respectfully ask that audience to reflect upon the wisdom of the project, and to consider whether the imam’s alleged goal of interfaith understanding might not be better achieved by accepting the New York governor’s offer to help find another site…..” Charles Krautmahher (Jerusalem Post)
“But when political realities force them to retreat, as Obama has done in the mosque controversy, from a proud multiculturalism to a narrow defense of the right to the free exercise of religion and the right to build on private property, they’re in trouble. The free exercise of religion and respect for private property are not a promising agenda for progressives. Progressivism is in retreat. Obama’s problem isn’t that people falsely think he’s a Muslim. It’s that the public is correctly concluding he’s a garden-variety multiculturalist progressive. So November’s election won’t just be a repudiation of one non-Muslim president. It will be a repudiation of a multiculturalist progressive worldview—and of the bitter elites who cling desperately to that worldview and are consumed by antipathy to most Americans, who don’t……..” William Kristol (Weekly Standard)
“Larisa Ginzburg, a small business owner and entrepreneur from Long Island was not only angry at the planners of the Ground Zero mosque – she was upset with politicians, too, for supporting it. “I’m disgusted with the responses of Mayor Bloomberg and President Obama,” she told me. “I’m further disgusted with Nancy Pelosi and her call for an investigation,” Ginzburg said in reference to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s call for an investigation into the people funding of those opposed to the Ground Zero mosque. “In reality, the funding of the mosque is what should really be investigated,” Ginzburg said in the reference to the organizer of the Ground Zero mosque, Imam Abdul Feisal Rauf……” Weekly Standard
Maybe these writers should talk to their grandparents, or grand-uncles. Maybe they should go to Israel and talk to a few survivors of European Christian charity. Maybe they will finally find out what it was like only a few decades ago.
