Surprise Switch in Iraqi Politics, Allawi Bites the Hand That……………

Aljazeera reports that Ayad Allawi lashed out at the United States yesterday in Moscow. The network reports that he said the United States will not accept any leader for Iraq who is not acceptable to Iran. He is reported to have said that the US stands against him because they want only those who have good relations with Tehran. He said they do not want problems after withdrawal.
Which may make some sense: why would the US want a government that has hostile relations with the neighbors, including Iran, especially Iran. Allawi has been trying again to play the “Iranian menace” card after a hiatus of a few weeks. He would kiss the “nose” of Ahmadinejad himself if that got him to be prime minister. But the Iranians don’t trust him and may have preempted any chance of his selection through their allies in Iraq.
Okay, maybe he was just playing a tune he thinks the Russians like to hear.
At the same time, Saudi daily Asharq Alawsat reports that a “meeting” may be held in Syria this week to solve the Iraqi government impasse and that Turkey and Russia will attend. It is not clear who has or will call this claimed meeting, but it seems like mainly disinformation. Okay, there may be “some meeting” in Damascus by “some parties”, almost certainly by Allawi and his Neo-Ba’athist bloc, but it will not solve the Iraqi standoff. (You can assume this to be my fatwa for this week).
Cheers
