“A fourth 'spy' suspect has been arrested from the Druse village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights on Monday. Mona Sha'ar, 46, is the spouse of suspect Najad Sha'ar, and mother of the first arrested suspect, Fada Sha'ar. All of the family members have been arrested on the suspicion of committing crimes against the security of the state. A gag order has been imposed regarding further details in the case. Unlike Israeli Druse, almost all the residents of Majdal Shams and the three other Druse villages on the Golan Heights identify themselves as Syrians. Earlier in July, Israeli forces entered the home of the first suspect, Fada Sha’ar of Majdal Shams, to conduct a search and make arrests…….” Jerusalem Post  (Israel)

These are Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan, a territory that the UN and everybody in the world outside the US Congress consider Syrian territory. I consider it Syrian territory even though the Syrians are a rather surly people, as surly as anyone else in the Middle East (well, except for Jordanians who tend to be surlier). How can citizens of an occupied territory “commit crimes against the security of the state”. In Nazi-occupied France, such people were celebrated in the West as "the resistance". But, then, they were Europeans and Christians, well mostly agnostic really as the French tend to be.
