Israeli Settlements Expand, Palestinian Reservations Shrink into “Townships”………..
“The Israeli construction freeze, which did not extend to East Jerusalem, was politically difficult for Mr. Netanyahu, with his right-wing coalition partners. He has called the stoppage “exceptional” and “extraordinary.” But an examination of the freeze after more than seven months suggests that it amounts to something less significant, at least on the ground. In many West Bank settlements, building is proceeding apace. Dozens of construction sites with scores of Palestinian workers are active…..….”
So, the Jewish settlements continue to expand despite the lie that Netanyahu calls “a freeze” and the American leadership is too afraid to denounce in a tough election year. Meanwhile, the ineffectual and stagnant Arab oligarchs still cling to the old Thomas Friedman-Saudi “peace initiative”. That plan, and given the sharp and seemingly permanent Israeli political shift to the extreme right, realistically can at best lead to the creation of Palestinian “townships” as their reservations shrink.
