What they Smoke at al-Azhar, a Fatwa to Save, a Fatwa to Kill…………

Alarabiya reports that the Egyptian House of Fatwa (yes, there is one called Dar el-Iftaa) has settled the controversy about the fate of the parents of the Prophet Mohammed. The Prophet became a full orphan as a child when his mother died, and he was raised by his grandfather and uncle. The theologians in Cairo have decided, based on a group of religious ulema, that they are among “the saved’ and not among those who will go to "the fires of hell" for not being Muslims. This after a research was prepared on the matter. This was based on the fact that there was no proof that they were apostates and that they also lived before the “message” of Islam and could not be blamed for not becoming Muslims (what about Julius Caesar?). One idea used to reach the opinion was a “belief” among some theologians that actually God kept them alive until they became believers, after which they presumably died (apparently with some help).…….
Now if all our regional problems could be approached with this kind of simple “logic”, everybody in the Arab world and the entire Middle East will be happier (even Jordanians will be less surly). I sometimes wonder what these ulema inhale during their meetings since Egypt has been cracking down on the once ubiquitous hashish. And yes,
Cheers
