Conflicting Reports on Joe and Jill (Biden) in Iraq: Obama-Allawi Hotline?………….
Saudi daily Asharq Alawsat reports today that Joe Biden has suggested to Ayad Allawi during a Baghdad meeting that a hot line be established connecting him (Allawi) directly to the White House in order to discuss relevant issues. It also reports that an alliance between al-Maliki and Allawi is all but a done deal. I don’t know about the Maliki-Allawi deal, but the story of a hotline from Allawi, who is only a member of parliament sounds as absurd as a hotline between Putin and Senator Scott Brown. Saudi media have been pushing Allawi’s bloc of former Ba’athists so hard that they are ready to claim that a divine vision to one of their editors called for Allawi to become prime minister. No other media has carried this bizarre item.
Azzman, which has the same political inclination about Iraq as the Saudi media, however does not embellish the news, just reports that Biden advised that all “major players” should be included in the government. Which tells me that the Asharq Alawsat report has affair share of BS.
