Clinton’s Steel Curtain Is Full of Holes: What Hillary Values, Favorite Autocrats……….
“Intolerant governments across the globe are "slowly crushing" activist and advocacy groups that play an essential role in the development of democracy, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday. She cited a broad range of countries where "the walls are closing in" on civic organizations such as unions, religious groups, rights advocates and other nongovernmental organizations that press for social change and shine a light on governments' shortcomings. Among those she named were Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Venezuela, China and Russia. "Some of the countries engaging in these behaviors still claim to be democracies,"…..….”
It left out many countries unmentioned that are worse offenders than those listed. The secretary noticeably left out several absolute monarchies that never hold any elections and never allow freedom of political expression. These countries she left out are worse offenders than China, Venezuela, Egypt, or Iran as far as political and religious freedoms are concerned.
But these omitted countries have one important advantage the secretary apparently values more than democracy and freedom: they are rich and they spend a lot of money on expensive defense products. They are mostly in the Middle East and that “closing wall” she mentions for others have always been there in these absolute tribal oligarchies. These autocrats are more equal in Washington than others.
