Alarabiya reports that Saudi Arabia will hold its first comedy festival later this July, to be called the “International Comedy Festival” and to feature many Arab comedians. Prince Faisal Bin Khalid, Prince of Asir Province announced the details of the festival at a news conference. Famous comedy stars from Egypt (the only Arab country that used to have a sense of humor before the Mubarak era), Syria (never known for a sense humor even before the Ba’ath), Kuwait (used to have a sense of humor some years ago up until the 1980s), and Saudi Arabia (still looking to develop a sense of humor, but it ain’t easy), and others. This is a great initiative, and I wish this festival the best of luck. I hope it make a lot of people laugh from the bottom of their hearts: they need and deserve it. Comedy is much more funner than a bunch fat bearded men sword dancing, stag of course, in their thobes. Maybe the Iranians will follow next.

I immediately noticed there was nothing about any Jordanian comedians in this upcoming festival. This reminded me of my long search for a Jordanian sense of humor. I know it is an oxymoron to expect Jordanian comedians, but one can hope even if one is not from Jordan. At least the others are trying, they have a chance: one or two of them even have a history of humor.
Cheers
