Asking the King to Ask Obama to Ask the Israelis and Iraqis and Iranians to…………

This Qatari academic is writing in al-Quds al-Arabi with requests to the Saudi king Abdullah for his visit to the White House. His main concern is Iraq: he wants the United States to basically install Iyad Allawi and his gaggle of former and current Ba’athists in power in Iraq as a way of atoning for the invasion of 2003. He is also asking the king to demand that America eject all Iranian influence from Iraq forthwith. Along the way he remembers to insist that the king should insist that Israel withdraw to the 1967 borders and that all Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to their land.
Just a small shopping list for the king to present to Obama this week. He forgot to ask the king to insist on the form of the next Israeli government as well, but that was just an oversight.
All this shows the degree of dysfunction in Arab politics and diplomacy. When an Arab king has to ask the US president to ask (or tell) Israel and Iran on how to behave inside the borders of the Arab world: now that is a sign of hopeless collapse of the Arab system. Nothing like this has happened before in modern Arab history, not in about sixty years.
