Middle East Tensions: On Viagra, Shoe Polish, and those Extra wives…..
Alarabiya reports that about 30 million Arab men suffer from erectile dysfunction (sexual impotence, to put is crudely). I suspect that the number is much higher, given that the issue is very sensitive and many would not admit it (it is tempting to say that only their wives, all the wives, and girlfriends know the truth, but given the affliction…..).
This is related to various diseases, including diabetes among others, which have spread especially in the Persian Gulf states. There are various “cures” being peddled in the region, including both herbal and chemical medicines. Magic has also been used extensively, although one can get beheaded in Saudi Arabia and Waziristan for resorting to magic and sorcery. There are now warnings that some of the medications marketed my contain something many are familiar with: shoe polish components. This is ironic, since people all over the Middle East joke (privately of course) that their potentates use shoe polish to keep their hair looking jet black and young. That was one other thing they all had in common with Saddam. Ever wonder why all these oligarchs never show a grey hair even as they hit their eighties?
Anyway, modern rich foods, stresses, and tensions are now part of life in the Middle East, and they apparently cause all kinds of complications. Just like everywhere else in the world, including most of the US Senate (and not just the Republican side although often it seems like it).
