Stalin in Tehran…………
“Author of “The Good Stalin” Viktor Erofeyev, currently visiting Iran, attended the review session of his book at Tehran’s Central branch of Book City on June 22. The session was attended by several Iranian authors, Erofeyev as well as the Persian translator Zeinab Yunesi. “The Good Stalin” is Erofeyev’s path to becoming a writer despite strong opposition from his family who was obsessed with Stalin. The book was released by Iran’s Nilufar Publications and warmly received by Iranian readers at the 23rd Tehran International Book Fair.…… He next directed his criticism toward Russian authors and said, “Russian authors believed all the anger and dissatisfaction of mankind were rooted in external factors such as the society. They searched for the root of malevolence inside man and believed that there was a social reason behind it and it was their duty to find it. “Russian literature has always considered the political apparatus as its main enemy and always sought to rescue man from social and political restrictions. “What I am trying to say here is that it was the Russian authors who pushed the country toward communist revolution. And although they had pushed the society toward communism, they themselves stood against the new government and tried to nullify it,” he explained…....…”
Okay, I detect a not too subtle message by the Iranians here for their own writers, perhaps including journalists. There is a hint that authors and writer-types should not push too hard for change, lest they get what they did not expect or wish, like another Stalin.
