No Iranian Visit to Buchenwald, Irony of a European Act………

“Delegation from Shiraz, Iran, a twin city to Weimar, Germany, refuses to make trip to Buchenwald concentration camp. An Iranian delegation upset its German hosts by refusing to tour a concentration-camp memorial, the city council of Weimar in eastern Germany said Thursday. The Buchenwald concentration camp, where Nazis killed tens of thousands of political prisoners and people from minorities through disease, exhausting work and executions, is located near the city. Visitors usually pay their respects to the dead at the memorial and visit the museum. But the group from Shiraz, Iran - a twin city to Germany's Weimar - refused to make the scheduled trip on Wednesday, civic officials said……….”
This Iranian delegation made a mistake in refusing to visit the concentration camp. It had every right to do so, to refuse. Yet this incident will also be added to the media hype of Ahamadinejad’s foolish toying with the concept and history of the Holocaust (even though he did not openly deny it: he is not that stupid). The invitation may have been a deliberate attempt to embarrass the Iranians, which is ironic: using a symbol of bloody European Antisemitism to embarrass a country without a history of Antisemitism. Just a small example of Euro-hypocrisy. The refusal was a miscalculation by a small delegation that probably did not know what it could or could not do. It will be added to the lore some are building up to set the stage for Bush-Iraq II, only the sequel will be bloodier.
