Xenophobia on the Gulf: Idle Bureaucrats to Decide whom one Marries………….

“Kuwait has set up a committee to look into ways to limit marriages between Kuwaiti men and foreign women. The committee has been assigned the task of studying marriage applications with a view to reducing the number of marriages between Kuwaiti men and foreigners, the Al Qabas daily said yesterday. While most Kuwaiti men preferred to marry their countrywomen, hundreds do take foreign wives…… Kuwaiti women would rather enter a mixed marriage than stay single. A study of the 2008 marriages in Kuwait indicated that 9,238 Kuwaiti men had married Kuwaiti women……”
You’d think these hapless bureaucrats could find something more useful to do than meddle in the private lives of citizens. Like try and fix the perennial electric power shortages and the polluted sea. Who a person marries should not be the business of any frigging government.
Besides, all these Persian Gulf states have huge foreign majorities among their populations (ranging from nearly 90% foreigners for the UAE to about 35-40% for Saudi Arabia).
