Game Theories: Georgia on Israeli Minds? Is the Target Iran or is it Hezbollah and Syria?..........

Al-Quds al-Arabi quotes an American report that Israel has made plans with Georgia to attack Iran from Georgian territory. The report claims that recent Israeli leaked news about “other countries” being ready to cooperate with her against Iran are aimed at diverting attention from plans agreed on with Georgian officials. The report notes that Israel has a strong military presence in Georgia, and that recent Israeli leaks about possible Saudi cooperation in an Iran attack were intended to pressure Turkey into not canceling bilateral deals……

I learned during the summer of 2008 that one should never underestimate the foolishness of Georgian president Saakashvili. Anyone who provokes a war with Russia is probably stupid enough to open his country’s territory for an attack on a third country. Georgia is, economically speaking, in deep doodoo. It historically depends on Russian natural gas for its energy needs: having already antagonized the holder of the largest gas reserves in the world, now it is seeking to antagonize the country with the second largest gas reserves in the world. Maybe AIPAC is paying them enough to make up for the inconvenience. If all this is true.

Of course, the ruling theocrats in Tehran are probably happy with this, if it is true. It will consolidate their power, and it will give the Likud and its extreme right wing allies a golden opportunity to give themselves a bloody nose with a futile gesture. Or maybe the real target is not Iran, but Iranian influence: Hezbollah in Lebanon and perhaps Syria. If Hezbollah is perceived to have joined the fray with a few missiles fired, then that will open the door for some major Western operations along the whole Lebanese-Syrian coast. Its goal will be to ensure that the Saudi-Hariri axis will dominate Lebanon against the will of a majority of Lebanese who support the other side.
Remember, we Middle Easterners are firm believers in conspiracy theories, which also may mean that we are into Game Theory. Maybe.

Cheers
