America Helping Saudis get Nuclear Weapons? Egyptians as Chopped Liver...............
I did not want to pay to read the whole report, so I don’t know what they say in detail. But it is ‘the thought that counts’ in this case, and here are my two cents anyway:
- This is pure speculation: personally I believe it is not true, but it can be Israeli disinformation. I have my doubts: if the US is trying the Saudis to develop nuclear weapons, why try to stop the Iranian program?
- What would the many friends of Israel say to the Saudis going nuclear? What would the American people say given the roots of al-Qaeda and the perpetrators of 9/11?
- It would be cheaper, safer, and more effective in terms of American strategic interests to put the region under a US nuclear umbrella.
- One thing about an unlikely Saudi program is that it will not be local: the Saudis do not have the human resources to do that on their own. If it happens, it will be like a purchase, whereby Americans or, more likely Pakistanis, will be doing the actual work.
- And what would such a move mean about the Egyptians? That they are considered chopped liver to Washington?
