“The next government will decide the issue of implementation of American withdrawal, and the administration wants men obedient to it to come to power, but these men could not win even with a lot of money and falsifying ballots. A resrarchre at the AEI, close to neoconservatives, recently lamented the little chance of Ayad Allawi even though he received millions of dollars from Saddam Hussein’s former allies in Jordan and other Arab countries. He said the Obama administration has tried to improve Allawi’s chances of heading the government…… Iraqis may have forgotten that when Allawi was in the Governing council he appointed his in-law Nuri Badran as minister of interior and later defended him against charges that he used public money to speculateon the currency, which led to the loss of ten million dollars. And the minister of defense under his rule was Hazim Sh’alan, a former Ba’athist who was admired by the Americans because of his anti-Iranian thetoric, and he also lost a billion dollars on worthless contracts that were supposed to help fight terrorism……….”
