The Farce of Sudanese Elections, a Typical Arab Story…………………

President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan — the man wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity in Darfur — has been celebrating. His regime calls itself the National Congress Party, or N.C.P., and he was quoted in Sudan as telling a rally in the Blue Nile region: “Even America is becoming an N.C.P. member. No one is against our will.” Memo to Mr. Obama: When a man who has been charged with crimes against humanity tells the world that America is in his pocket, it’s time to review your policy. Perhaps the Obama administration caved because it considers a flawed election better than no election. …….”

There will be a new war in the South. Al-Bashir will have the support of all Arab states and Iran in his quest to keep the southern peoples subjugated and their oil under his dictatorial control. As for the election, any Western observers who claim it was fair must be smoking or chewing something. Arab oligarchs have perfected the art of phony elections. From Sudan to Egypt to Yemen through the rest of the Arab world, they always win, they make sure they do. No Arab leader ever gives up power, ever, willingly. No Arab bureaucrat ever gives up power ever, willingly. None ever have that I recall, except once.
