Qusay Nominated for Iraq Leader, the Effect of Being Gassed……….

Tomorrow the election results will be finalized in Iraq. Whatever the results, it looks like both Nouri al-Maliki and Iyad Allawi will be out of contention for prime minister. Allawi never really had a chance, given the strong opposition among the INA and State of Law. His well-publicized visits to Saudi Arabia and public statements to foreign Arab have apparently antagonized some influential (Shi’a) elements who will not accept him. The Kurds, for their parts, do not look fondly on Allawi’s Ba’athist allies since they do not have fond memories of the rule of the Ba’ath. Being gassed and ethnically cleansed tend to have that effect on most people.
Some Arab media report that the Sadrists, who may effectively have a veto power over the choice, will nominate a scientist of their own rank for the job. Elaph (Saudi) reports that the nominee is Qusay Abdulwahab al-Sahail, 45 years old and a PhD in geology. His specialty, appropriately, is water resources. There is also a report that the Da’awa Part of al-Maliki may nominate one of his assistants for the job.

Still, the four main Iraqi factions (al-Maliki, INA, ALlawi, Kurds) are holding meetings; they don’t call them talks yet. I probably don’t need to repeat my fatwa here: that Allawi will not be the prime minister. That would be the last Iraqi election, if he gets the job. Luckily he won’t.
Cheers
