Iraqi Post–Election Machinations…………

The two largest Shi’s (Shi’ite) alliances in Iraq, Stat of Law and INA, are discussing a merger. But the Sadrists, a big part of the INA, do not have good relations with al-Maliki. If it happens, that would lead to the marginalization of Iyad Allawi whose coalitions won many Sunni votes in the March elections…..” al-Quds al-Arabi London daily that still mourns Saddam Hussein’s demise.

Media in the surrounding Arab countries are reviving the idea of a Sunni entitlement in Iraq. But it will not work this time, and Allawi will not become a prime minister, as I stated in my now famous fatwa. I shall go a step further and extend my fatwa: no one form the Allawi alliance shall become Iraq’s prime minister. (Actually Allawi himself may be banned because his mother was Lebanese and the Iraqi constitution stipulates that both parents must be Iraqi born. It is a silly rule that should not keep anyone from heading the government. Unless that person is a current or former Ba’athist).
