Al-Maliki, the Ahmedinejad of Iraq? Thus spoke chief editor of Saudi daily Asharq Alawsat. He also railed against De-Baathification, calling it an attempt to expel some people from the ‘democratic process”. He warns that “we” are facing the danger of dragging the whole of Iraq toward an Iranian-style experience. Others among their mercenary columnists are writing that Allawi is the only man for Iraq. Oddly, ex-Baathists are saying the same thing now.
Ahmadinejad will be out of office in four years, at most. Constitutionally he cannot run for a third term. Thank God for term limits: by that time he probably would have done enough damage to his country. But the oligarchs and potentates around Iraq will be around well beyond that, well beyond our time.
As for their man Allawi and his Baathist alliance, whom another blogger called” Ba’ath light” recently, my fatwa still stands: he shall not be prime minister of Iraq.
Cheers
