General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, who has denied rumors that he is under pressure from his and other Persian Gulf governments to ease up on Israel after the assassination of Mahmoud Mabhouh, hammered his point home this week when he issued a strong warning to any alleged spies lingering in the region. Okay Wyatt Earp; you gave ‘em until sundown to get out of Dodge. After that it’ll be the O.K. Corral in far away Tombstone.
The chief is a serious but exasperated official trying to do his job the way he can. But trying to get all spies out of our Gulf is like trying to chase all hookers out of Las Vegas, or expel les dames du Bois de Boulogne.
Besides, most of them are our own spies, trying to figure out what we are up to.
