Jewish bagel lovers in New York said they disagree with a recent ruling by ultra-Orthodox rabbis taking lox, or smoked salmon, off the kosher list. Chevra Mehadrin, a small group of ultra-Orthodox rabbis centered in Monsey, N.Y., said it added smoked salmon to the list of foods it does not believe should be considered kosher because the fish often contains anisakis, a small parasitic worm, the New York Post reported Monday. The announcement drew the ire of several Orthodox rabbis in New York. "This issue has been resolved in Jewish law for hundreds of years already," said Rabbi Moshe Elefant of the Orthodox Union………..”

I am glad Rabbi Elefant disagrees, because I like lox even though I am not Jewish yet. Apparently this Elefant also likes lox, and I bet he likes a lot of it.
It is refreshing to see rabbis argue about simple harmless things like the kosher-ness of lox. Some of our rabbis back home, especially the Salafi ones, argue about such weighty issues of faith; issues like whether a girl can be married off at 9 years of age or should she wait until she is 11 years of age. There are even more weighty matters they focus on, but perhaps this is not the place for them. Perhaps......
