Salafis, Sex, and Politics: Tale of Two Shaikhs, Tale of Two Women……………..

A theological dispute arose among several shaikhs about the eligibility of a female student becoming head of the Student Union. The Sunni shaikhs opposed the idea of a girl heading the Union, while the Shi’a (Shi’ite) shaikhs supported the idea of a girl heading the Union. The Sunni shaikhs said that a pious woman cannot go on strikes or leads protests, for that would reduce her feminism and her ability to act as mother, sister, wife, etc………The Shi’a shaikh said there is nothing in Shari’a that would prevent a women from leading such a Union……...”

The Salafi shaikhs, if they could, would send the women back home where they would stay- preferably spending their time between the kitchen and the conjugal bed. There would be no college education for them- a la their Taliban friends.
Cheers
