Land of Billionaire Princes and Desperately Poor Bedouins……….
“In a country of hundreds of billions, Saudis fight to get a thousand dollar cash. The incidents that accompanied the conclusion of the King Abdulaziz Festival for Camels at Hafr al-Batin were saddening. Although Saudi Arabia tries hard to present the image of a society that cares for its citizens, it always ends up proving the opposite. This Camel festival is a deep-rooted part of Bedouin culture, and perhaps the Saudi government was trying to patronize its citizens through these festivals. But embarrassing things happened. Reports say that fights broke out when Prince Mishaal Bin Abdulaziz was distributing rewards (or cash payments) although the amounts did not exceed Riyal 4, 000 (US$ 1,000)………….” Middle East Online
