Jews of Lebanon and Solidaire…………..

“Remnants of the Jewish community of Lebanon struggle to keep alive some of their monuments that were neglected and abandoned during the war years. They begin with the Synagogue of Abraham Magin in the commercial center of Beirut which the governments of former prime minister Rafik Hariri converted into what is called “Solidaire”………. The Jewish community is one of 18 communities that forma the Lebanese society, and like other Lebanese many of its members emigrated during the civil war……… One family disappeared after the 1967 War, gone to Israel: their neighbors missed them, especially those who were there creditors. There are estimates of a couple of hundred Jews permanently living in Lebanon, but official startistics indicate the 5,500 live in Beirut alone…......” Aljazeera
Many Lebanese, especially the non-investor classes and even some of the others, despise the Solidaire project for aesthetic, economic, and political reasons. Some object that it messed up the heart of Beirut and many of its people for greed.
