The Royal Media Insist: Crippling Sanctions or War on Iran…………

“The statements of the high officials of the US administration about Iran are confusing. Although Vice President Biden and National Security’s Jim Jones talked of an international decision to tighten sanctions and punishments on Iran, there has been no noticeable movement t the Security Council as yet. The road to tighter sanctions seems to be along one. Hillary Clinton escalated the verbal charge while in Qatar and Saudi Arabia and described the Iranian regime as subjugated to the Revolutionary Guards Corps and that the country is becoming a military dictatorship, at the same time Mr. Obama insists the USA is ready to deal with the regime in Tehran and to respect it and recognize it as with any other democratic country that does not oppress its people and is not under the economic and political control of powerful elites…….....” Columnist in the Saudi daily Alhayat
Not to defend the mullahs, no doubt they hijacked the original Iranian Revolution and have frustrated people’s demands for and electoral attempts at reform. But all this talk here about “democratic countries that are not controlled by political and economic elites” surprised me. The al-Hayat lady could have been talking as well about Saudi Arabia, whose princes own her newspaper. You can’t get more undemocratic, elitist, and controlling than that country
I shall not mention the other oligarchies we have in the Middle East. What really bothered me is this anger at the West for not going to war and not tightening sanctions against the Iranian people soon. (Really tightening sanctions will only hurt the people of Iran, not the regime, not the mullahs. I learned from the Iraq experience that sanctions do not hurt the regime, they only hurt the weakest of the people).
