Middle East Cruel Joke of the Week, Praying Over Lebanon……

“Arab League chief Amr Mussa said on Thursday that Arab countries would stand by Lebanon if it were attacked by Israel, adding that the situation between the two countries is tense. "If a new attack or aggression is in the process of being prepared, they (Israel) will not get away with it easily," Mussa said after meeting with Foreign Minister Ali Shami. "We learned the lessons of 2006, and the Arab position is to stand by Lebanon." Mussa did not elaborate on what he meant by the lessons of 2006 on what he meant by the assurance of support. Israel launched a devastating air, ground and naval assault on Lebanon in July 2006 after guerrillas from the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah seized two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid……..”
Flashback. Arab regimes, they who run the Arab League, held their breath and prayed, alternately crossing and uncrossing their middle fingers. That was in July 2006, when Israeli power devastated the Shi’a areas (only Shi’a areas) of Lebanon, just before they withdrew in defeat. Whatever you think of the Hezbollah, and I certainly do not agree with them politically, they did win that one, defying conventional modern Arab experience.
These Arab oligarchs were praying for an Israeli victory, not because they like Israel, but because they wanted Lebanon to go back to the way it was. As the cliché goes: you cannot put the toothpaste back in the tube. How can you put Lebanon back the way it was without getting rid of over 40% of its population who do not wish for it to go back to the feudal way it was?
The oligarchs prayed silently and not so silently. Their vast media of mercenaries did not pray silently: they were loud, especially on the shores of the Persian Gulf, my Gulf, in their wishes for an Israeli victory. They, who had never won anything other than an inherited throne, some fat contracts, or perhaps an occasional roll of the Roulette dice.
Maybe they are offering some help to Lebanon (i.e. Hezbollah) knowing that that can only man defeat in any war, because they could only lose battles.
Let’s call it the cruel joke of the week: the Arab league helping in a Lebanon war.
Cheers
