Jordanian Inquisition, Watermelon Democracy, Vanished Humor………..
“Jordanian State Security Court has absolved six young men from the charge that they were spreading the Shi’a faith in Jordan. The court ruled that the men did not fan the flames of sectarianism by spreading Shi’ism. Their lawyer had said the six young men never called on anyone to convert to Shi’ism…… He said the young men were merely explaining their descendants from the family of the Prophet, as the historical documents indicated……..” Aljazeera
Accused of spreading their faith. Tried by a State Security. Sounds like the Inquisition. King Abdul (de Jordanie) was once invited to address a joint session of the US Congress, about peaceful co-existence and democracy. Both of which do not exist in his kingdom.
No wonder I am having a hard time in my quest for humor in Jordan. It used to be a “search” but now it is a “quest” (an inglorious one) for Jordanian humor. It is most likely futile, but I am still dogged.
How can the people be anything but surly under such a watermelon justice system.
Cheers
