Fatwa on the Nile: Till Swine Flu Do Us Part, or HIV, or ED, or…….
The Fatwa Committee of al-Azhar in Egypt has issued a Fatwa (what else did you expect) that a wife cannot ask for a divorce and a husband cannot divorce his wife (he does not need to ask for it) just because his or her spouse has the Swine Flu (H1N1). Shaikh Marzouq al-Shahat, head of the Committee was reacting to an Egyptian husband divorcing his wife on the pretext that she was infected. Marzouq said certain diseases justify divorce: like leprosy, madness, and others (he did not mention Erectile Dysfunction or the ‘premature’ opposite, but I bet they were on his sneaky religious mind). He said that the Swine Flu is curable and not a horrible cause that a husband can divorce his spouse. Maybe the schmuck was mixed up between H1N1 and HIV.
