Servile Acolytes of Arabian Media, Canonizing a Living Absolute King, Spreading the Bull......

“Everyone paused at the new protocol introduced by the chairman when he said “My dear brother Custodian of the Two Holy shrines…my dear brothers Your Majesties and Highnesses".....It was not a mistake in protocol…... He was telling the whole Gulf, the whole Arab world, and perhaps the whole world that “Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz is our leader”……. that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is our leader, the leader of the Gulf organization…….. the second message was cultural, civilizational: he was saying that the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines is above all kings and above all their highnesses………. King Abdulah Bin Abdulaziz has prove that he is the man of building, facing the forces of destruction…………”
I decided to take a minute and translate a few painful excerpts from a column in the Saudi daily Asharq Alawsat of today. The writer is offering a king as leader of the Gulf, the Arab world, and perhaps eventually the whole wide world. In fairness, the old king most likely does not read the stuff; he may even not think in the same terms as his media acolytes do and pay for it.
It is not just the stance that bothers me, it does, but everybody, almost everybody outside the kingdom, is entitled to his or her opinion. What bothers me the most is all that “spreading of the bull”. What also bothers me more is that I end up reading it occasionally, especially on a slow day, then feel that I have to force my readers to share the suffering with me. Click the link and enjoy.
I wonder if MEMRI translates the whole thing; in that case they should pay the poor translator a hardship allowance.
Cheers and Happy Holidays
