Suicide explosion near government ministries in central Baghdad has killed and wounded several hundred Iraqis. Prime Minister al-Maliki indicated that al-Qaeda and the Baath were behind it. Some (Sunni) politicians were quick to divert suspicion away from local terrorists, they have told the Saudi station Alarabiya that “foreign” intelligence services were behind it. Some have claimed it is part of a dark plot to somehow affect the January elections or postpone them. Syria, often accused of harboring some of the terrorists, was quick to condemn the attack.
More than 825 have dies this year in terror incidents and thousands have been wounded.
