In the Middle East, an item like this would have been headline news for days on end. It would be discussed loudly and emotionally, whether it is appropriate to allow Shi’as, for instance, to become Hanbalis or Shafe’ies but retain some of their unique characteristics, like the Husseiniyas, for example.

As or an ecumenical dialogue between Sunnis and Shi’as, it is usually done by kings and potentate, or at their order. With snaps of their fingers that would set their minions into motion. Every Middle East oligarch is the uncrowned king, sorry, crowned, sorry head of his own Islam, that of his country, and he has his own tame ulema and muftis who interpret everything according to his wishes. They also flip-flop along with the oligarchs.
