- Brown of Britain was somber (have anyone seen him otherwise? Probably not even his wife)'
- Sarkozy was somber for a change; for once the smirk was gone. This tells me things are getting serious with the Iran issue. I hope it didn’t ruin his soufflé and other diversions (is Carla with him in Pittsburgh?)
- Obama was, well……Obama-esque.
- The Chinese are silent; they used to call that ‘inscrutable’ in the West, but the term is not politically correct nowadays. Think many billions of petroleum investments.
- The Russians have vaguely mentioned tougher sanctions; but Medvedev is not Putin. What about Bushehr and Natanz?
- The Israelis will give the military option another closer look. Better yet, the rightwing Netanyahu coalition will also use this to expand the West Bank settlements.
- As for the Arabs; well, who cares? The oligarchs have been effectively neutered for about thirty-nine years? Some Arabs will worry some more about escalation and war. Other Arabs (the Persian Gulf Salafis) will hope, as always, for escalation and probably are praying fervently for a war against the rival theocratic regime in Tehran. Even a war waged by those the Salafis call ‘eternally damned’ (a k a Christians) and 'descendants of pigs and monkeys' (the favorite Salafi name for the Jewish people, but I assume they exclude the ancient Prophets from that insult).
