A Burqa Controversy, Frenching in Arabia, Critical Times, Weighty Issues..…….

Not a trace of doubt in my mind.

What’s in a face?
“Saudi Shaikh A. al-Qarni renews his fatwa allowing exposing a woman’s face. This should set the stage for a new vigorous debate between sheikh al-Qarni and his opponents among the ulema and others. Two years ago he was forced to change his mind publicly after a similar call raised objections. His new fatwa says that a Saudi woman can expose her face when overseas if she is subject to harassment……”
How does one become a shaikh? Do they have to submit an application, take a test like the comprehensives and orals in graduate school? Are they Bestowed by some oligarch or potentate? Is it all of the above.?
Back to the face issue: is it wise to do that, in some cases? I recall one Saudi man who had never seen his wife’s face during thirty years of marriage. (I guess Frenching is frowned upon over there). On day while she was asleep, his curiosity got the better of him (once in a while someone gets curious), and he lifted the burq’a and took a peek. The wife woke up while he was looking, and she sued for divorce.
I am guessing that the poor man, having finally seen his wife’s face, hoped she would not change her mind, about the divorce……
