Saudis Warn Iraq On Elections and Terrorism

“Iraq: worse is yet to come…….There is an important point that a high-level Iraqi brought to my attention, and that is that the continued charges of the al-Maliki government against what they call the ‘takfiris and Ba’athists’ represent a dangerous message. Repetition of this phrase after each “security event” means the message that half the Iraqi people get is that Maliki accuses Sunnis of being behind the terrorist attacks, and this will complicate matters further in Iraq…..We add that what is coming can be even worse unless there are real solutions the most important of which is ‘reconciliation’…..”
Tareq al-Hemeid, Chief Editor of Saudi daily Asharq Alawsat, threatening Iraq with worse terrorist attacks to come unless al-Maliki forgets the electoral political process and gives the minority Arab Sunnis (15% of the population) about half the power in Iraq. Elections or no elections. This is an emerging pattern throughout Saudi media and its satellites, with one apparent goal being to discredit the coming Iraqi elections ahead of time.
As I said before, these people do not take such ‘strong’ positions on any issue unless they have the go-ahead from their absolute royal bosses (this seems to be especially true of this editor). If I were a coarse and crude person, I would have said that they practically do not break wind publicly without royal approval; something that is absolutely true. But, alas, I am not coarse and crude, so I won’t say it.
