Saudi Shaikhs Ban Same-Sex Kissing and Necking: Swine Flu Impact

“Mufti Shaikh al-Shaikh (shaikh square) advises people: no more kissing or necking…fear of the Swine Flu.......”
I didn’t know they ever kissed and necked in Saudi Arabia. I firmly believed it was no-no until now. I never saw couples kissing during my few brief trips to the kingdom. In fact, all I saw kissing were men with shaggy beards, basically rubbing beards.
But maybe the sheikh was talking about same-sex show of affection because that tends to increase during special occasions like Ramadan.
Interesting how the West, especially in America, they seem to take the Swine Flu in stride….they don’t seem to make much of it, it is there in the news, but there is no panic anymore, no changes in plans…Meanwhile, school openings are being delayed this fall in the Gulf region, and travelers are checked at airports. I am surprised there are still weddings with all the attendant hugging and kissing; the same-sex type of kissing, not bride-groom type .
On a serious note: the Omra (mini) pilgrimage increases during Ramadan, and many countries are cutting back or imposing bans. The real Haj will be a touchy issue this coming autumn, because over two million people from all over the world will be in close contact for several days in Hijaz.
Cheers and Ramadan Kareem
