Iraq Bombings: Tigris and Euphrates Flowing with Blood, and Nabat Poets Society

“The bombings Baghdad suffered two days ago were highly organized, of the kind of organization that only security services can have….Things are so confused that it became hard to determine who is committing these crimes…Meanwhile the security and intelligence agencies were never beyond suspicion…”
Iraqi (Sunni) columnist in a pro-saudi Persian Gulf daily rag.

“This continuing Iraqi bloodbath: who is responsible? The rivers of blood running in iraq are deeper than the Tigris and Euphrates rivers…..This bloodletting reflects the true picture of the nature of the failed regime in Iraq…..It is a struggle for power among the sectarian factions (meaning Shi’as)…..Iraq has been handed because of the foolishness of Americans to its historic enemy……Degrees of infiltration of all institutions…..yada, yada, yada….” Another Iraqi (Sunni) columnist in the same Gulf daily rag.
There is something very Ba’athist about the style of writing of these quasi-literate writers. They use the same jargon and name-calling that Saddam’s goons and propagandists used. And they always gravitate to the same Gulf daily rags that used to be strong supporters of Saddam when he was committing his atrocities before August 1990. Maybe after 35 years of hearing the talking points it is hard to change.
Not sure who to believe on Iraq anymore: Shi’a Iraqis, Sunni Iraqis, Iranians, Saudis, Syrians, Turks, Israelis, or Fox News and Sarah Palin?
So far, only the Nabat Poets Society (Diwaniyat Sh’ura al-Nabat) has not opined on the situation in Iraq……as far as I know. Maybe they have the inside track.
